The dating life

I don´t know how many dates I have had in recent years. Before you read this, I would like to emphasize a few points.

First, I am grateful for all the dates since I learned something about myself from all of them. Furthermore, all of the men I dated were polite and nice in their own way – some in more individual ways than others ;-). Finally, looking back, most of the memories I have of them are good ones or at least have made me smile in retrospect – so thank you.

However, some individual habits and occurences made me roll my eyes, laugh out loud or just plainly and shake my heads – lost for words – at times and these are compiled in this list. It is to be read with a wink and a humorous attitude, please.

Facts about dating women in the 21st century – for men (over 30)

  1. Expressing the wish that she will be wearing leather pants at the first date before the actual first meet has taken place is an extremely bold move.
  2. Asking a question implies you are interested in the answer. Hm. Ok.
  3. Living at home with your parents is not attractive. Best case: you`re not doing it.
  4. Delete your mental checklist. She is no model. She is a real woman.
  5. Telling your date that your Mom chose your outfit (which does not even qualify the „outfit“ word…) is definititely not a clever decision.
  6. Neither is paying separatly for two coffees (total amount about 4,80 €).
  7. Having an actual conversation helps. This means talking about whatever topics come up, going with the flow of it, exploring the way she thinks and you react to this. (one of the funniest encounters I had started with a conversation about peanuts.)
  8. Spend time with her. Whenever, wherever. It does not matter what you do – just that you see each other. Yes, it is that simple.
  9. Laughing together is a good sign. 🙂 Her laughing at you sometimes can be, too. 🙂 🙂
  10. Do not be afraid to reveal something personal about yourself. Being real is what matters.
  11. Get to know her first. Then invite her to your mother`s birthday. 😉
  12. If you are male, older than 30, feel the clock ticking and all you want is to tie the knot and all you can talk about is wanting a wife, really, any wife, a house, and kids… well, it does not convey the impression that you are really interested in the person sitting in front of you. Don`t waste her time.
